2015 Ford F-150

The 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck is on target to shed 700 pounds thanks to aluminum body panels and will get as much as 30 mpg in highway driving, according to Ford. While the F-150’s frame remains primarily steel, Ford claims the military grade of aluminum it uses for the body is just as strong and dent-resistant, and inherently less likely to corrode. The material also allowed Ford to execute an exterior design that’s more aerodynamic.

Inside the 2015 Ford F-150, not a lot has changed from previous versions of the pickup, though there’s a new level of upscale look and feel on premium trims. Blocky shapes and sturdy structures are the visual theme, allowing the F-150 to stand out.

Under the hood, four engines are available. Along with the choices offered in its predecessor, the all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 is an unusual but reasonable choice for a full-size pickup. Built around a compacted-graphite iron block, the smaller turbocharged V-6 offers automatic stop/start to reduce gas usage in traffic, as well as a range of friction-reducing technologies to further improve gas mileage. All four engines are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Both 4×4 and 4×2 drive configurations are available.

Available at Scottsdale Ford dealers, three cab styles will be offered: Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. Matching the cabs, three beds will be offered, with lengths of 67.1, 78.9, and 97.6 inches. Upon release, these cab and cargo box configurations will be complemented by five trims: XL, XLT, King Ranch, Lariat, and Platinum. New equipment offerings for the 2015 F-150 include Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, inflatable rear seat belts, pickup-box LED lighting, Sony premium audio, and, on Platinum models, real wood trim. An off-road-oriented FX4 package will be available, bundling off-road-tuned shocks, skid plates, and an electronic locking rear axle.

Other prominent new features include a power-locking rear tailgate with remote opening and 115-volt outlets with 400 watts of power, enough to recharge power tool system batteries. LED headlights and taillights are standard or optional depending on trim level. Available safety features include a 360-degree rearview camera, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
