Can’t Afford a Shelby? Print One at Home

Car Buffs Rejoice at New Online Tool

Ford recognizes that everyone who falls in love with a Shelby GT 350 or Raptor can’t afford to actually buy one, which is why the new Ford 3D Store is the perfect solution for gearheads on a budget. The Raptor, Shelby GT 350R, Ford GT, Focus RS, Focus ST and Fiesta ST are all available in 3D model form in the first online one-stop 3D shop licensed by an automaker. The Ford 3D Store lets customers make their own models of any Ford vehicle or purchase a 3D model of a select number of available cars and trucks. You can then take the file to a print shop that has 3D equipment, or use your own 3D printer to create your model vehicle at home.

Use Files for Presentation

The 3D Store files are not limited to printing. Purchase and download any of the available vehicles to use in a presentation, but Ford expects the greatest use will be for customers to create model vehicles. “3D printing at home is a growing trend and it makes sense for us to offer out customers a chance to make their own 3D Ford models,” said Mark Bentley, licensing manager for Ford. “At Ford we’re using 3D printing every day to rapidly prototype parts, and now we want to share that fun with our fans.” Commercial 3D printers are able to produce a vehicle in a variety of materials, including sandstone, soft plastics and even some metals. If you need a little help deciding which vehicle to pick, go inspect the real thing at your Scottsdale Ford dealer, Chapman Ford.

Once Rare, 3D Printing Now Commonplace

3D printers for the home are becoming much more common than in years past. Last year, only 44,000 printers were sold nationwide. That number is expected to jump to 1 million units by 2018. If you’d rather just have the finished model, you can purchase a 1/32nd size scale unit from the Ford 3D Store. Purchasing a digital image gives you the freedom to change the size and print the model in the material and colors you want.

Ford GT Available in Sandstone

Although most of the cars available already printed from the Ford 3D Store come in plastic, the new Ford GT as featured in the E3 2015 Forza Motorsport video game is available in Sandstone for $230. This limited edition model comes out prior to the release of the actual vehicle, which is expected in showrooms like Chapman Ford early next year.
