F-150, Expedition Benefit from New Lightweight Engines

Utilizing lighter engines that deliver more horsepower along with the liberal application of high-strength aluminum and steel in the body, both the Ford F-150 and Expedition offer more power, torque and efficiency than ever before. “Each F-150 and Expedition customer has unique needs, and we can deliver even more of the capability and efficiency they are looking for, thanks to our strategic use of lightweight materials and innovative V6 engines,” said Ford VP Hau Tahi-Tang. “Our dedication to this kind of innovation helps our F-Series and Expedition customers take care of their growing families and businesses, all with fewer fuel stops along the way.” Check out the Ford Expedition and F-150 innovations when you take a trip to Chapman Ford in Scottsdale.

More Efficient Engines Coming in 2018

The 2018 Ford F-150 comes with an efficient 3.3L V6 that offers more power than ever before. By utilizing direct injection and dual port technology, the next offering from Ford trucks offers better performance than larger engines in the past. The same technology is applied to the 2.7L EcoBoost engine, offering a 25-foot-pound torque increase in the lower range, which is where you really need the power. For those who require more towing and hauling capability, Ford has also enhanced the 5.0L V8 for 2018, delivering 10 more horsepower and 18 more pound-feet of torque than the current version. The new V8 is also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for the first time in history, creating a more efficient truck.

Expedition has New Body

Thanks to the success of aluminum in the bed and body of the F-150, the new Ford Expedition will also have a body with a liberal amount of high-strength aluminum alloy built around a rugged steel frame. The result is a weight savings of 300 pounds, resulting in greater efficiency and performance. The new Expedition comes with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine that’s paired with the new 10-speed automatic transmission. It delivers a phenomenal towing capability of more than 9,300 pounds while producing up to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The 2018 Ford Expedition will come in Platinum, Limited and XLT trim packages with an FX4 off-road package available on the XLT. Fleet customers, such as law enforcement agencies and first responders, will also have access to an XL version. The extended Expedition MAX will be available in all trim levels. Test drive the new Expedition and F-150 this fall when they make their first appearance at Chapman Ford.
