Plug-in cars are replacing gas guzzlers left and right, so what makes the Ford C-MAX different? Well for starters Ford offers both a hybrid and Energi version of the car; both models have exceptional technology, environmentally friendly features, and are extremely versatile.

The Ford C-MAX comes with an available SYNC with MyFord Touch that when combined with SmartGauge and EcoGuide completes any hybrid or plug-in hybrid experience. SmartGauge allows drivers to customize their efficiency levels and also display how effective you are driving on a conveniently placed LED screen. SYNC with MyFord Touch is an infotainment system that can be activated by voice commands, which allows drivers to focus on the road. Both models also come with a hands-free liftgate, making loading and unloading cargo easy and expedient. The liftgate is simply opened by having your Intelligent Access key on you and placing your foot under the bumper, the gate than automatically opens. The Intelligent Access key also easily starts the C-MAX with a push of a button. Ford also created a smartphone app that allows consumers to monitor their C-MAX Energi settings at anytime and anywhere.

The C-MAX is also a stand out simply due to its size. The MAV (multi-activity vehicle) seats five passengers comfortably. Even with its size the car is designed to be as fuel efficient and green conscious as possible. The powerspilt hybrid design utilizes gas when needed while also using regenerative braking that charges the battery. The gas engine is designed to work with the electric motor to maximize efficiency. The main difference between the hybrid and Energi models is the plug-in capabilities. The Energi has an external charging port and an advanced lithium-ion battery for electric-only driving. The Ford C-MAX Energi can be fully charged overnight, both models however have a new 2.0L hybrid I-4 powertrain. The electric motor in combination with the powertrain allows the system to produce a total of 188 responsive horsepower.

Being a five-passenger hybrid makes the C-MAX unique but its versatility makes it a must have. With its hands-free liftgate, innovative storage options and cargo space, this car is great for anyone needing to transport cargo while still actively reducing their carbon footprint. The car also is able to virtually park itself with active park assist. The C-MAX provides the technology necessary to make any driving experience easy and convenient.

Phoenix Ford drivers should come down to your AZ Ford dealer to test drive and see this uniquely convenient hybrid.

The 2013 Ford Focus ST is finally available for pre-order! To become one of the elite first owners simply go to Ford.com, between now and August 20th. Online you will be able to custom build your Focus and print the specifications, then simply head to your local Ford Focus Scottsdale dealership to place the order.

The Focus ST is only available in the five-door hatchback model to appeal to European-style performance fans. Inside the hood the new Focus has a 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected EcoBoost I-4 engine, which creates 252 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. To ensure drivers experience the Focus ST as a performance car, the only transmission offered is a six-speed manual.

Ford Focus Scottsdale drivers will appreciate the new ST features such as: a unique stiff suspension, sport seats, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Ford added standard aluminum pedals, 18-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels, a larger rear spoiler, gaping piano-black grille, and unique ST badging inside and out. Keyless entry, a pushbutton start, and Ford’s Sync infotainment system bring the most up to date technology to the ST.

Two add-on packages are available: ST2 and ST3. The ST2 package includes the addition of a Sony audio system, eight-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite and HD radio, and Recaro partial-leather sport seats. The ST3 package expands on the ST2 package, with the addition of HID headlamps with LED running lights and cornering lamps, interior ambient lighting, heated exterior mirrors, a navigation system, a rear armrest, and front overhead console.

To further customize the Ford Focus ST, there are six exterior color options to choose from; including colors such as loud tangerine, scream orange, tuxedo black, performance blue, and race red. The interior color options vary depending on which package you select with the car. The standard interior color is charcoal-black cloth and grey inserts. With purchase of the ST2 package you get the choice of smoke storm and charcoal black with performance blue accents, or charcoal black with tangerine scream accented partial two-tone leather. If you choose the ST3 package the seats come in all luxury charcoal-black leather.

The interior remains relatively similar to past Focus models, except for the addition of Recaro seats and an Active Sound Symposer. The Active Sound Symposer system makes engine noise nearly silent to the driver while cruising, however when the car is quickly accelerating the engine sound is amplified for an additional performance car feel.

Overall the 2013 Ford Focus ST not only has style but provides performance as well. The new Focus ST should hit dealerships later this year but is available for pre-ordering at your Chapman Phoenix Ford Dealership.

The 2013 Ford Explorer is strong, supportive, and incredibly capable, thanks to new technology and top of the line safety features. The Explorer comes in three models: standard, XLT, and Limited, all of which are available at Phoenix Ford dealers. Each model comes standard with a 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. Even with a powerful engine the Ford Explorer delivers the highest EPA mileage ratings in its class: 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

There is also an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. All-wheel drive is available on all models and maximizes traction with a new system called Terrain Management; there are four modes in the system which the driver can set. The Normal mode distributes about 90 percent of the power to the front wheels and 10 percent of the power to the rear wheels. The torque shifts as needed or if the front wheels lose traction. The Snow/Gravel mode allows the wheelspin to be reduced and enables the transmission to make upshifts earlier. This model helps stabilize handling and makes it easier to maneuver the Explorer in messier conditions. The Sand mode provides the most aggressive throttle and also allocates the transmission to hold gears longer while making the traction control less sensitive. The Mud/Ruts mode provides the torque to increase simultaneously as the throttle increases while the stability control is desensitized to maintain momentum. These all-wheel drive options make off-roading in any conditions easy and fun.

Phoenix Ford drivers will also love that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the Explorer a Top Safety Pick for its exceptional safety features. One feature is the new curve control system executes accurate braking to individual wheels as needed to correct trajectories and is part of an overall electronics suite. Other safety assets include antilock brakes and Ford’s ActiveTrack stability system with rollover mitigation and trailer sway control. Dual-threshold front airbags, a front passenger knee protection airbag, front-seat side impact airbags, head-protection curtains, and SOS post-crash alert all come standard. There is also the ability to customize further with a rearview camera and rear obstacle warning, adaptive cruise control with collision warning and brake support, and a blind-spot warning system with cross-traffic alert.

“The Ford Explorer sets a high standard for practicality, functionality, and family friendliness while still upholding a rugged off-road capability,” says Chapman Ford General Manager Chad Hubler.

The interior of the Explorer has cargo volume measuring 21 cubic feet behind the third row, 43.8 cubic feet behind the second row, and 80.7 cubic feet behind the front seats. There is nearly 40 inches of legroom for the second row and 33.2 inches of legroom for the third row. The Explorer comes standard with cloth upholstery, a six-way power driver seat, six-speaker audio, air conditioning with particulate filter and rear-seat controls, rear privacy glass, halogen projector-beam headlights, roof rails, and many more. Many of the features and functions can also be adjusted in four different ways either by voice command, thumb buttons on the steering wheel, touching the display screen, or by using the buttons.

Come check out Chapman Ford for the new 2013 Ford Explorers!

The ultimate Ford Mustang – Shelby GT500 – raises the bar high on performance by delivering 650 horsepower and a track-tested top speed of more than 200 mph. The 5.8-liter supercharged V8 aluminum-block engine produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world. Arizona ford dealers should expect to receive shipments of the 2013 Shelby GT500 in mid-summer 2012.

Nearly every part of the powertrain has been optimized for producing the additional horsepower, including a new supercharger, new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber driveshaft and upgraded clutch, transmission and axle.

And nearly every gear on the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 has been revised to manage the torque and use more of the power in a way that makes it more driver-friendly.

The newest Shelby GT500 convertible with the optional Performance Package is nearly 3.5 seconds faster than the outgoing model at Sebring International Raceway. The 5.8-liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower, Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers and new Brembo brake system are key enablers for the improved performance

2013 Shelby GT500 with its 650-horsepower V8 marks the latest offering from one of the oldest and most successful automotive performance groups in the world.

“The Shelby GT500 convertible is every bit the performer that the coupe is,” said Sam Quina, Chapman Ford General Sales Manager. “All of the significant changes Ford made in the program were instrumental in delivering a convertible that could really shine on the track but can still be driven on a daily basis.”

Accessed on the dash with a simple push of a button, normal mode gives Phoenix Ford customers a more comfortable ride over road irregularities. Sport mode is all about performance, delivering improved response time on the track and less body roll while cornering with reduced pitch under braking. The upgraded dampers allowed SVT engineers to tune the convertible more aggressively for the track, while still being able to maintain desirable on-road manners.

A new Brembo brake system also is a key enabler in boosting the performance of the convertible. The new brakes offer Ford Phoenix drivers enhanced stopping power to help keep their car under control, while new six-piston calipers in front along with larger front and rear rotors further improve braking performance. More aggressive brake pads also help the car achieve high deceleration and further robustness for more driver confidence.

Similar to the coupe, the convertible will be offered with a Performance Package that also can be upgraded to a Track Package, complete with an external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability.

The 2013 Ford Fusion NASCAR Sprint Cup car, unveiled just a few days ago as part of the Charlotte Motor Speedway Media Tour, was worked on by Ford designers in an effort to bring “BLUE OVAL” brand identity back to the sport. The finished product stands posied to achieve that and more with the 2013 Sprint Cup car all but mirroring the recently unveiled 2013 Ford Fusion production car.

Featuring a completely redesigned sleek new silhouette and fresh face showcasing proudly the new look of America’s Mest Selling and Most Reliable Sedan, the 2013 Fusion Sprint Cup car was designed to be the face of a new era of stock car racing not just a fresh new face for Ford.

Chapman Ford welcomes the all new NASCAR FORD FUSION

”We wanted Fusion to be the car that helped return ‘stock car’ to NASCAR.” stated Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “I think fans, when they see the car, are just going to smile and cheer. It is going to reengage them with the sport and make the sport better because there is just something natural about seeing race cars that look like cars in their driveways.”

This marks the third time Ford simultaneously launched production and NASCAR versions of a new model. The first dual launch came in 1968, with the sleek fastback Ford Torino. Legendary NASCAR driver David Pearson drove the Torino to back-to-back NASCAR championships in 1968 and 1969. The second time came in 2006, when the then newly introduced Ford Fusion appeared in showrooms and on the track.

Ford took a different approach with the development of the 2013 Fusion racer. Ford Design Center staff, led by Garen Nicoghosian, and Ford aerodynamicist Bernie Marcus, spent the past year doing the early design development, freeing up the Ford race teams to concentrate on weekly NASCAR competition. “This is a seminal moment in the sport where we had a chance to get it right once again and make sure the race cars are race versions of street cars. And I am proud because I believe we have accomplished just that,” continued Allison. “The 2013 Fusion is a stunning car and the 2013 NASCAR Fusion is even more stunning and I can’t wait to see it perform on the track and connect with race fans.”

Ford designers, led by Nicoghosian, addressed three main issues to mirror the 2013 Sprint Cup Fusion to the 2013 production Fusion found on showroom floors.

Design Features of the 2013 Fusion Sprint Cup Car

* Designers addressed the overall proportion of the race car to reflect proportions found in the production Fusion

* Brand and design cues in the side of the vehicle

* An identifiable front end grill with the distinctive look of a Ford

“It looks fun to drive and very much eager to go and tear up the track. It has a very aggressive stance from the outside and the inside. From all angles the vehicle exudes performance and I think it reflects our general attitude of how we go about setting up our cars very, very nicely,” said Nicoghosian. “It brings a certain level of nimbleness and lightness and agility to the NASCAR platform, much like we do in our production cars, because all of our production cars have that nimbleness and agility and eagerness about them.”

The new NASCAR Fusion entries will be tested throughout the 2012 campaign in preparation for their racing debut at the 2013 Daytona 500 in February.

It was hard for the judges to find fault with design elements or overall execution of any of the F-150s. Several judges remarked that, were they in the market, the EcoBoost F-150 SuperCrew would be their choice, hands-down. The more utilitarian XLT or even something like an FX2 or FX4 trim level would likely be chosen for value over something like the Platinum Edition. Besides the 10 trim levels, Ford offers four engine choices: three that represent solid traditional options, with the EcoBoost truly a step forward in performance. The two transmission choices are six-speed automatics with the higher-end option offering select-shift manual modes. All agreed the F-150s are built to work and felt better the more they were challenged.

Ford offers an enormous variety of configurations and designs, making the truck tailorable to just about any need. It's the combination of advancement in design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value, and the performance of intended function that has earned the Ford F-150 the title of Motor Trend's Truck of the Year

You Know that feeling you get when you see a supercar sitting in the parking lot of the local six-buck-a-cup coffee shop? The ache in your stomach, knowing that toddling back and forth from the gated community to the strip mall is all the driving that poor car will ever do? We get that same feeling when we see an F-150 that doesn’t have at least 1000 pounds in the bed or 5000 pounds hanging off the hitch. Just like that supercar, the F-150 is a tool built for a purpose. It has a goal in life, and the people who never use it as it was intended are squandering the truck’s ability and a heritage that goes back to 1948. Thats just a few key ingredients that went into the development of this years 2012 F150, a truck for all reasons, Motor Trend’s truck of the year.

2012 Truck of the Year

To test, Motor Trend gatthered two of the more popular trim levels: a Platinum Edition EcoBoost and an XLT 5.0-liter V-8. New for this year, but not on hand for scrutiny, were Ford’s entry-level 302-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 and the range-topping 411-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 from the Raptor now available in the Lariat, Platinum, and Harley Davidson Editions. MT has done extensive testing of all four engine options early this year, including strapping each one down to a chassis dyno, so they’re very familiar with power levels and delivery of the entire lineup.

The EcoBoost is the obvious orange in the apple crate here. Ford’s throwing a gasoline direct-injection, twin-turbo-fed V-6 under the hood of a full-size truck is almost enough to knock the earth off its axis. What’s even more shocking is that an engine that looks like it would be at home mid-mounted in a sports car is actually better than any of the eight-piston offerings in maybe any company’s lineup. It clearly checks the box for Engineering Excellence, one of the key criteria for any Of The Year competitor. Truck Trend editor Allyson Harwood noted, “On the road, the EcoBoost makes the 5.0-liter look like obsolete technology. The twin-turbo V-6 is incredibly quick and eager, power is abundant throughout the rpm range, and I didn’t really notice any lag.” The EcoBoost delivers more torque to the ground than the big 6.2-liter up to roughly 5000 rpm and more than the 5.0-liter all the way up to 6000. In loaded, towing, and uphill testing, several judges noted how hard the 5.0-liter was working. “Power seems opposite of where you want it in a truck” to “had to keep the throttle mashed while the transmission hunted” were typical comments.

To be fair, the testers who drove the 5.0-liter first were bigger fans, at least until they drove the EcoBoost. “Moved over a half-ton with ease at very impressive NVH levels,” logged Lieberman, adding that the V-8 sounds “good and burbly.” Kiino loved the “musclecar engine note” and wondered if this is the “boss of trucks.” The V-8 is obviously still a good engine, but it’s overshadowed by a great engine. This is often the problem with advancement: People don’t know what they’ve always wanted until after they’ve experienced it.Regardless of the drivetrain, the judges were unanimously impressed with the F-150′s ability to earn its keep. In towing or hauling, the consensus was both trucks only got better the harder they were working. “It rides even better at 80 mph with a payload than without. It carries out its business like there’s nothing there,” wrote Jurnecka. “As nice as the ride was unloaded, it got even better loaded,” agreed Harwood

Even in handling tests, the F-150 feels more planted and better balanced with a payload in the bed. Some trucks feel as though the load is trying to peel the truck off the asphalt and roll it over, but in fast turns, the F-150 is still using both rear tires to put power down. We aren’t delusional about how people will use these trucks; no one is buying one as a sports car. However, our performance driving translates directly to how an F-150 will handle in emergency situations. We’d be confident to throw one of these, even loaded, through an emergency lane change.

There are roughly 650,000 different ways to equip an F-150, including engines, cabs, beds, wheelbases, and assorted options, but not paint color. The moral of the story is, if you’re seeking a truck and can’t spec out an F-150 to suit your needs, you may want to look into buying your own personal freight train

Both the SuperCrew and SuperCab body styles offer plenty of room in front and back. The Platinum’s front seats are bisected by a center console with enough storage for files, a large lunch, or even a medium-size pet. The shifter is console-mounted, which a few judges found un-truck-like. Others more accustomed to cars deemed it sporty and familiar. The XLT retains the traditional column shifter with a bench seat in front and a folding center backrest with cupholders. Clearly, Ford’s marketing department has missed a golden opportunity for yet another acronym with this feature. Motor Trend has called it the Storage On Demand Active Center Accessory and Nutrition Holder, or SODACAN Holder for short.

Storage cubbies abound throughout the interior, along with such other thoughtful design touches as extra power outlets and wide-opening doors. We still have mixed feelings about Ford’s Sync system, but it seems to be evolving into something more useable than the first iteration. The new gauge cluster features a 4.2-inch driver productivity display for monitoring fuel economy, towing, and off-road driving data.

Entry and exit are relatively easy, though still require a step on the runningboard or a good pull on the steering wheel or O.S. handle for passengers. Which brings us to one of the few ergonomic complaints with either truck. The Platinum edition includes power runningboards that swing out when the door is opened. Just about every judge complained of bruised shins, as the boards pop out during the roundhouse leg kick up and into the truck. Yes, the runningboards are electronically defeatable, but why have them if they just stay tucked up under the body?

It was hard for the judges to find fault with design elements or overall execution of any of the F-150s. Several judges remarked that, were they in the market, the EcoBoost F-150 SuperCrew would be their choice, hands-down. The more utilitarian XLT or even something like an FX2 or FX4 trim level would likely be chosen for value over something like the Platinum Edition.
A custom rear spoiler with Vertical Tailfins was affixed to the rear decklid to keep the beast planted when being put through a similar regimen of aerobic exercises to its turbine powered siblings. To further look the part, screaming yellow graphics were applied as were the Blue Angels script and Shield. The Shield was also embossed into the one-of-a-kind Flight Suit Inspired Recaro Leather Seating with Offset Striping and matched stitch. The rest f the interior is tastefully addorned with guages to monitor increased performance and appliques to further cement the rarity of this Ford Created One Off GT. Other Subtle modifications include puddle lighting and sills that when doors open project LED images of Jets.

Not to leave such a properly bespoked Mustang without a breath of BEAST, Ford engineers installed a Ford Racing Supercharged 5.0 V8, Ford Racing Handling Pack, performance exhaust, and racetrack brakes.

Good news, as the third Ford in a line of vehicles to be auctioned for the Young Eagles Organzation, it will be sold at the Experimental Aircraft Assosciation Airventure in OshKosh Wisconsin on July 28, 2012. The program has provided introductory flights to more than a million and a half young people since 1992 while teaching hardwork, personal responsibility, and enhanced amth and science skills.

The next generation of EcoBoost engines will move even closer to diesels as Ford introduces cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), which helps enable higher compression ratios. Further refinements to EcoBoost engines expected to yield another 5 percent gain in fuel economy. such as direct injection and turbocharging – and optimized them for the gasoline engine,” said Fascetti. “The next generation of EcoBoost engines will continue that path to deliver more power and even better fuel economy with lower emissions, which are key customer benefits of EcoBoost technology.”Technologies being studied to further expand the potential of EcoBoost include cooled EGR and more advanced forms of turbocharging, which also have links to modern diesel engines. Cooled EGR as applied to an EcoBoost engine can improve efficiency and reduce the tendency for an engine to knock. Cooled EGR is exhaust gas that is cooled in a heat exchanger before being pumped back into the cylinders, where it lowers the combustion temperature. The result: a cleaner-running engine that develops more power and delivers as much as a 5 percent gain in fuel economy over today’s already efficient EcoBoost engines. Ford’s current generation of 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 and 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engines deliver between 10 and 20 percent better fuel economy than comparable normally aspirated V-6 and V-8 engines, respectively.

Ford holds more than 125 patents on its EcoBoost technology, which combines direct injection, turbocharging and variable valve timing to increase performance and reduce emissions. EcoBoost gasoline engines already use much of the same technology that is found in today’s state-of-the-art turbo-diesels.

As with diesels, today’s EcoBoost engines feature:

A high-pressure direct-injection fuel system fed by a common rail that delivers a precise amount of gasoline in the exact spot for fast and complete burn

Turbocharging to create a more dense mix of air and fuel in each cylinder

Special pistons with optimized bowls in the center to improve combustion efficiency. These pistons are also oil-cooled, which reduces in-cylinder temperatures

Reduced CO2 emissions and higher fuel economy

And just like diesels, Ford’s EcoBoost engines deliver outstanding performance and driving enjoyment at all speeds. EcoBoost accomplishes this at less cost than a similar-displacement diesel engine.

“When it comes to smaller-displacement engines, EcoBoost is the perfect solution for most consumers,” said Barb Samardzich, Ford’s vice president for Powertrain Engineering. “EcoBoost delivers outstanding fuel economy and low-end torque.”

Adapting diesel engine technology to a gasoline engine involves more than simply machining a few new parts and then just bolting them on, explained Brett Hinds, manager of Ford’s advanced engine design.

“An EcoBoost engine has much higher operating temperatures than a diesel engine,” said Hinds. “Many parts had to be upgraded to special metals and alloys that hold up to that environment. Our exhaust manifolds, for example, are made of stainless steel, and the turbochargers are made from high-temperature cast-iron alloy.”

EcoBoost and diesel engines share higher pressures in the fuel system and higher compression ratios. For example, a regular port fuel-injected gasoline engine’s fuel pressure is around 65 psi, while the pressure at which the fuel is delivered through the injectors in an EcoBoost engine can be as high as 2,250 psi.

State-of-the-art diesel engines, such as the new Ford-designed and Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V-8, have fuel pressures that are even higher. But in both engines, the fuel is delivered to almost the exact same area. With EcoBoost, the fuel is introduced directly into the cylinder head, just like a diesel, and the fuel injection tip is right in the combustion, just like a diesel.

Chapman Ford is happy to say that Ford will be introducing about 30 powertrains over the next couple of years to power everything from small cars to large pickup trucks. Our experience with a wide range of engines allows us to provide the best solutions and apply them to many platforms for all of your varying needs.

With all of Ford’s new Tech Savvy and Eco Friendly gear on board, what else could you need? Fun, driving enjoyment, attractive styling, and one of the segment’s nicest/roomiest interiors would be nice. They are all present and accounted for here in the new E-Focus. Power is supplied by a permanent-magnet electric motor delivering 123 horsepower and a 4 cylinder diesel rivaling 181 pound-feet of torque. The motor is fed by a 23kwh lithium-ion battery system and mated to a single speed transmission. Charging is complete in 18-20 hours on a 120v outlet. This time can be cut to an astounding 3-4 hours with 240v power and an available rapid charger. Contact us to reserve your 2012 Electric Focus by clicking here.
