Mustang Love Spreading Across Planet

Pony Car Popular Across the Globe

Thanks to a surge in exports, the Ford Mustang is now the most popular sports car on the entire planet. Global sales increased by 6 percent in 2016 as the Mustang accounted for 150,000 sales worldwide. About 45,000 of those Mustangs were sold in countries other than the United States. If you haven’t been paying attention to the Mustang for awhile, now’s the perfect time for a test drive and inspection of the entire Mustang inventory at Chapman Ford.

Global Rollout Big in China and Germany

Much of the increased sales around the world is credited to a massive rollout in Germany and China, along with introduction of Ford’s legendary pony to tiny countries such as Gibraltar, Bonaire and New Caledonia. The Ford Mustang is the best selling sports car in China, which offers the largest auto market in the world. China sales increased by 74 percent from 2015 to 2016. “The legacy of Mustang continues to grow, and in places it never reached before,” according to Mark Schaller, Mustang corporate marketing manager. “We continue to make it available in new markets, and drivers in those markets continue to respond with resounding approval.”

Also Most-liked on Social Media

The Mustang is not only popular in the driving world, but also is king of social media. The Ford Mustang has 8.4 million likes on Facebook, the most of any vehicle. It is now sold in 140 countries around the world including every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Six new countries will offer the Mustang for sale this year, including Brazil, the Ivory Coast and the Palau Islands. Those customers will see a more athletic Mustang in 2018, with a new body design and advanced technology that includes a 10-speed automatic transmission, 12-inch digital instrument panel and magnetic ride shock absorbers.

“The new Mustang is our best ever, based on more than 50 years as one of the iconic sports cars in America, and now, the world,” said Ford Americas president Joe Hinrichs. “Tapping Mustang’s enormous fan base, we’re bringing the new Mustang straight to the people – and introducing the new car across multiple social media channels, reaching millions.” The Mustang delivers your choice of four different engines delivering at least 300 horsepower, with the monster Shelby GT350 the most powerful of all, producing 526 horses and 429 pound-feet of torque.
